![]() Press Release Raywood launches MD-X, the next generation in-vehicle environment and selects Webraska SmartZone Navigation technology Paris, France and Sydney, Australia - November 23, 2004 Webraska Mobile Technologies, the pioneering provider of wireless location-based services and GPS navigation solutions, and Raywood Communications, a world-leader in advanced GPS job dispatch and vehicle tracking systems for the taxi and fleet management industries, are pleased to announce the launch of Raywood's MD-X, next-generation in-vehicle device. This powerful device includes, as standard, integrated in-vehicle navigation powered by Webraska SmartZone™ Navigation technology. The MD-X in-vehicle device features a wide-screen, colour, touch-sensitive display and a powerful system unit, specifically developed to suit the robust needs of the taxi and fleet management industries. Built on the Microsoft Windows CE.net platform, the MD-X is fundamentally different from other in-vehicle devices, bringing a more open and flexible environment into the vehicle and allowing the driver to perform more than just job dispatch. The inclusion of in-vehicle navigation means that drivers can easily provide a professional service and fleet performance is improved. "The MD-X hardware and the related service platform result from extensive expertise and knowledge acquired over time about the taxi and fleet management industry", declared Steve Watt, Raywood's CEO. "It is designed to bring the latest open technology to fleet management, such as Microsoft CE.net and public networks (GPRS/CDMA/3G). The solution includes stylish hardware and future-proof technology, but remains cost effective, easy-to-use and adaptable to each individual business' requirements". GPS assisted mapping and navigation will significantly improve the drivers' day-to-day working life: the less experienced may rely entirely on the system to guide them from start to destination while others will benefit from instant help to locate the most obscure address and travel in unfamiliar areas. Branded "Raywood StreetMap", the mapping function is a standard feature of the MD-X. It provides a high level view of the car's location and the destination. It can be optionally upgraded to "Raywood Navigator", a complete turn-by-turn navigation solution. Both Raywood StreetMap and Navigator are based on Webraska's proven SmartZone technology. Raywood Navigator is based on Webraska SmartZone Navigation application that offers a number of unique features including on-the-fly generation of realistic intersection icons, zoom-able and pan-able maps as well as automatic re-routing in case of a wrong turn. Mr Watt added: "We selected Webraska for their ability to integrate all the functions of their standard navigation offering into our MD-X hardware. They also proved very responsive in building a modular solution ranging from mapping to full turn-by-turn guidance functionalities". Raywood also selected Webraska because of their global reach and partnerships with mapping content providers. Webraska supports an off-board model, which will allow for future development of the Raywood navigation service to include the integration of traffic and roadwork data and other location based services. "The value of turn-by-turn navigation to a professional driver is obvious" commented Kirk Mitchell, Webraska's Asia Pacific General Manager. "The opportunity to partner with Raywood and deploy navigation within a demanding, cost focused industry confirms the reliability and competitiveness of our SmartZone Navigation offer". Raywood markets the solution worldwide and has already signed deals around the world.
